Whats New!

Rising to the Challenge

On May 19th, for the first time ever, employees from Mohawk Ambulance Service participated in the CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge held in Albany. The 3.5 mile race has been held annually since 1980 and the proceeds support the Albany Police Athletic League (PAL). This year more than 9,000 participants, divided into corporate teams (Men's, Women's and Co-Ed), made their way from the NYS Museum up Madison Ave, through Washington Park and back down to the Museum. The Mohawk contingent consisted of:

  • Katelyn Byrne
  • Brian Carey
  • Rhiannon Cramer
  • Tonya Danish
  • Peter Foust
  • Matthew Haker
  • Sarah Hennessey
  • Melissa Lancellotti
  • Michael LaPorta
  • Arthur Lounsbury
  • Matthew Pratt
  • Kristin Pulcher
  • Joseph Rankin
  • Kristin Rejack
  • Scott Rejack
  • Christie Stoffels
  • Kevin Sullivan

This will hopefully become an annual tradition with even more participating.

And...

Meeting the Challenge

While their co-workers were racing up Madison Ave., over at AMCH another MAS competition first, was being recognized. Mohawk Ambulance Service had a team participate in the Albany Medical Center EMS Competition. The event, held on May 15th pitted the newly organized Mohawk team against the World Championship FDNY team (they literally had just returned from Poland after winning the World Championship). Other local teams decided not to compete but Team Mohawk, comprised of Craig DeStefano, Michael Russo, Amanda Taylor and Josh Colvin placed second and received accolades for their performance from the judges. Bitten by the competition bug, the group can't wait to do it again. Replicas of the award winning trophy will be placed in each Station.

And, not to be left behind...

The operations folks aren't the only ones to get their feet moving for charity, the staff from the Mohawk Ambulance Service Business Office hit the ground walking at the 10th Anniversary Walk for Hospice which was held on June 19th at the SUNY Albany campus. Linda Moore, Linda Kitchen, Jess Moore, Rose Briggs, Cindy Allard and Wendy Becofsky walked 1 1/2 miles with about a thousand other folks and were treated to Dinosaur Bar-B-Que for lunch when they were done. More than $190,000 has been raised at this year's walk to benefit Community Hospice.

Mohawk Ambulance has a long standing relationship with the Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center and to further that bond, members of the Business Office staff, Linda Moore, Linda Kitchen, Alex Gendreau, Rose Briggs and Wendy Becofsky answered phones and took pledges at the 26th Annul Children's Miracle Network Telethon held on June 5th. The Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center is a part of Albany Medical Center. It is a 125-bed facility devoted exclusively to the medical needs of infants, children, and adolescents. The Children's Hospital It is the referral center for all seriously ill or injured children from 25 counties in upstate New York and western New England.

EMS Memorial

A drizzle was falling as the bagpipes played and three more names were added to the NYS EMS Memorial in Albany on May 18th. Paul Bazinet of Glens Falls (Empire Ambulance), Karen Hand of Lisle, and LeRoy Kemp of Barton were all honored at the ceremony for giving the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

The NYS EMS Memorial was dedicated in 2004 and now recognized 42 fallen providers including 10 who died at the World Trade Center on 9/11.

It is a beautiful memorial, a tree made up of Stars of Life with the providers names engraved and worthy of a trip to the Empire State Plaza for a moment of reflection.
